A great night at The Olde Nags Head, Castleton.

A lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Had a few drinks and met some lovely people. Some blokes were singing (they'd obviously had a few drinks - good for them). The singing 'in my opinion' was pretty good. Obviously not as good as the pro who performed later on. A great night.

Perfect!

We came on a busy Sunday hoping to get a table and were so lucky to get one. We had a large booth table near the bar. There is a great atmosphere and we weren't rushed at all despite people being turned away as it was so busy. Our food was delicious! I had the Beef Stew served in a giant yorkshire pudding - delicious! The desserts were lovely too. The beer mats all around the walls make a good talking point. This is exactly what a pub should be, a traditional old english vibe. We loved it. Will definitely be back when in the area again.

Would not recommend

Would not stay again. The room was very tired, hole in the wall, toilet roll holder falling off and hair in the shower. When I went to tell them about the shower, the guy came to take photos and said he'd let the manager know. When we checked out, we were not asked if we'd had a good stay. I mentioned the hair in the shower (the plug was blocked because there was so much) she was very dismissive, didn't apologise and just said bye!
Breakfast was adequate, over cooked full English and expected a muffin with eggs royale as stated, not a sweet brioche roll!

Great food. Hreat atmosphere.

Didnt stay, but the food was superb. The Calamari was succulent and tasty. The Steak and Ale pie had big chunks of meat and full of flavour.

At best, average. Wouldn’t stay there again

Location of the pub is great but the pub itself is tired looking and shabby.
We stayed in the Derwent room with a four poster bed. Looked great in the photos but in reality, wasn't. The room felt dirty. Carpets to the room and inside looked like they hadn’t seen a vacuum for sometime. The bathroom was ok. Toilet and sink (albeit there was no plug) were clean but mould in the shower and 2 spot lights in there were not working and neither was the extractor fan. We stayed two nights. Towels were changed as requested and the bins were emptied but general housekeeping of the room was poor. Cooked breakfasts were good, especially the first one, when we had fabulous bread (bought from the local bakery at a guess) to accompany some great tasting sausage and bacon.
Staff were friendly enough.
Lots of better pubs to stay in though. Wouldn’t go back.
