Would not recommend for most people
I wouldn't personally go there again. The staff is not particularly unfriendly but they definitely perform their job with a sense of indifference. The lock to my room was broken and they couldn't repair it. So they just told me to get a lock in the shop down the street to lock up my stuff under the bed.
To be fair the manager expressed he was sorry for this inconvenience but on the other hand did he do nothing to effectively compensate for the circumstances or offer a compensation in any way.
One women of the staff told me "maybe it's good because when I arrive at the room drunk I can't lock myself out at least". So that kind of explains for what a clientele this place is meant to be I think.
So when you just want a place to stay after a heavy night out and give no value on hygiene, which is disgustingly bad there, you will probably be fine, since it is to be fair the cheapest hostel in Cardiff. But for anyone else I would highly recommend investing a few more bucks and stay away from there. I however am glad I only booked one night there

Don’t stay here if you value your health
This place is not great even for a hostel. There are no showers or toilets or water facilities connected to the room instead there is only one available shower for the whole building and two toilets for the whole building. I left early, smelling like I’d just worked twelve hours down the pits pardon the pun.

BED BUGS
DO NOT BOOK!! Beds are extremely uncomfortable, place is very dirty, and worst part is I picked up bed bugs while I was here!

Complaint Regarding Failed Booking and Poor Customer Service
Dear Bunk House Team,
I am writing to express my disappointment following a recent experience at your hostel.
Despite having a confirmed booking through Hostelworld, we arrived to find that you had no record of our reservation. We provided all the relevant booking details, which appeared to be in your system, yet we were told that Hostelworld had not passed the booking to you. The staff member on duty informed us that you were fully booked and offered no assistance or sympathy, leaving us without accommodation in Cardiff.
This lack of support and empathy in a stressful situation was incredibly disappointing. We were forced to find alternative accommodation at the last minute, incurring unexpected costs and added stress during what was supposed to be a pleasant trip.
I hope you will take this feedback seriously and review both your booking processes and staff training, especially regarding how to handle issues with care and professionalism when guests are left in such a difficult situation.

Don't bother with this place
This place is CRAP.
It's never been great to start with. I went to Bunkhouse several times pre-covid when I was working down in Cardiff Bay.
2025 and it's completely downgraded. No more breakfast provided in the morning. Crappy little cages under the beds that are meant to be 'lockers' but you can't actually fit padlocks around them.
One shower room has a door that can't be locked. No communal kitchen. Just a microwave and a kettle with some cheap looking no frills 'coffee'
Is this business trying to kill itself. It's utter garbage for a hostel.
In fact, for what you're getting it's certainly not value for money at all!!
