Wonderful

We recently lived in an Aster Residence apartment for 4 months and found the building to be exceptionally well managed. Rooms at Aster Residence can be leased by the day or for longer periods. Many guests return every year to stay for a few months. The Aster Residence manager, Alex, who speaks excellent English, is helpful in every way and worked immediately to address any of our concerns during our stay.
The building is located near the Engineering Gate of Chiang Mai University. It is a couple of miles from the Old City, but is directly across the street from an 8-block-long row of street food vendors that is very active 7 nights a week. Suthep Road contains numerous shops and eateries of every kind. This part of town is not crowded with tourists like the Old City, so in contrast, prices for everything are better in the Aster neighborhood and the restaurants and vendors sell authentic Thai food. It is walkable distance to the back gate of the zoo and to hiking trails and roads in the park.
Aster Residence itself includes a pool, washer, a large sitting room, a ping pong table and an elevator that always works well. There is a modest exercise room. The spacious apartment included a full bathroom, twice/week housekeeping services (complete cleaning and the changing of bed and bathroom linens), a kitchenette (with 2-burner stove, microwave, sink and full-sized refrigerator), air conditioning, unlimited free filtered water, high speed WiFi, and a small balcony. Building security is very good.

Clean lovely rooms but a little too far from city

We stayed here for 5 nights over the new year. These are more serviced apartments than a hotel but are of excellent quality and size.
I’d have complaints with the apartments themselves but the one drawback I’d have with the Aster Residence is the proximity to the city. It is approximately 10 mins drive/1 hour walk to the city centre. In addition, there are limited bars and restaurants in the neighborhood.
We used Grab mainly to call taxis.
