Wedding at Hotel Elefant

We celebrated our wedding in August at Hotel Elefant, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The whole celebration went smoothly, and we could not have imagined a better place for this special day.
Of particular note is the food. For a buffet it was really outstanding – every guest was delighted with the quality and variety of food. Also the organization and communication with the hotel was excellent. All arrangements were implemented without any problems, and the team was always friendly and helpful.
Value for money was also exceptional. We are completely satisfied and can highly recommend the Hotel Elefant for any celebration. A big thank you to the whole team for this unforgettable wedding!

Price-performance ratio is appropriate. But there is still room for improvement.

Actually, it is a beautiful hotel with furnishings reminiscent of the colonial era of African countries. However, the entrance areas in the front and back were unkempt, with dried flowers, weeds everywhere, hedges untrimmed, and the tables in the outdoor area urgently need paint. Breakfast was okay, and the room was too. Personal was friendly. Everything was clean; however, it had a somewhat musty smell at times, which could probably be due to the ancient carpets.

I would not book the hotel again.

I have equipped 38 years of hotels. In all these years, I haven't seen earmuffs lying on the side table. But it wasn't by chance. I didn't turn a blind eye at night because of the noise of the tram.
Otherwise, the hotel was very basic but very well located.

Cozy with good location

Nice location close to the center and the castle. Cozy hotel, nice rooms, friendly service and good breakfast. Lovely courtyard behind the hotel. Unfortunately a lot of street noise if you get room to the street as the tram runs right below until late evening and from early morning again

Owner-run, cosy old town hotel with flair

The hotel "Elephant" breathes the charm of the "good old days" - with lush colonial decor in the public areas. Large, magnificent halls for breakfast and celebrations, a beautiful restaurant, all well maintained and equipped and decorated with attention to detail.
The shaded courtyard with floral decorations and fountain invites you to sit outside.
Room
About our rooms - 3 times studio with garden view - we can only say good things - each generous 25 - 28sqm, wooden floor, modern and contemporary renovated. One has 2 armchairs, enough space for suitcases, the room is bright and friendly, there is also a wardrobe, fancy floor lamp, TV of course. Additionally equipped with a small kitchenette, large fridge with freezer compartment, toaster and everything you could possibly need.
The beds were really comfortable, pillows absolutely pleasant and the eye-catcher the bedside lamps with elephant design.
Street noise was absolutely not an issue to the courtyard side even with the window open.
The bathroom made a very new impression, a perfectly lit mirror, towel warmer, large shower. What was missing, however, was a storage area for the cosmetic bag or clothes.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served from 8-10 am (on request also a little earlier), on WE until 10:30 am.
The breakfast room is the historic "elephant hall" - the murals and ceiling design with skylight are a feast for the eyes.
The offer is extensive and changes a bit every day - standards of course (scrambled eggs, boiled egg, cereals), plus a wide variety of bread rolls. Varied sausage platter, varied cheese selection, fish specialities, plus cream cheese, meat or poultry salads, sliced vegetables, tomato made with feta or mozzarella, apples and seasonal fruit... The only thing missing completely is a sweet selection (pastries, cakes, pastries). Replenishment is always quick, although at the most popular times of course waiting times at the buffet should be taken into account.
Shortcoming, however, is the coffee - served in pots at the table - and honestly ghastly. So thin that you can see the flower at the bottom of the cup.
Service
You have to learn to deal with the sometimes slightly brittle northern German way, but just in this typical way all employees were absolutely friendly, devoted and helpful.
Location
From Schwerin-Mitte train station you can reach the hotel in less than 10 minutes on foot, from the main train station about 20 minutes. The city center is also reached in a maximum of 8 minutes, to the lake / castle you can easily get through the hotel garden also in a few minutes. On this way there is a large supermarket.
