Not recommended
The lodge at the campsite was booked for 7 people.
Regarding the accommodation: The advertised sofa was missing. We only had 4 chairs in the entire tent, so not enough seating for everyone. Dishes were also included. However, we had neither spoons nor glasses there. The tent door could not be locked because the zippers were broken. There was underwear from the previous guests in the corners.
All of the advertised activities on the campsite grounds were closed. No restaurant/café, no indoor playgrounds. Even the reception was closed for the entire stay, and therefore no staff member was available on the campsite. Inconvenient when you can only use the washing machine and the like with coins that you are supposed to get at the reception.
Regarding Tropical Island itself: completely overcrowded. For the mass of people, there were not enough lockers and changing rooms. Of those, a large number also had a "defective" sticker.
The shuttle bus was so overcrowded the entire week that we had to walk every day and could not use it.

Very bad experience, would not go again.
I was told over the phone that one does not need to wait in the queue if it's their birthday, they can join the other person they are coming with and get in by showing their ID. However, my boyfriend was able to get his pre-bought ticket scanned at the automatic check-in machine, and I ahd to wait in line, so I did, and he joined me.
We waited for cca half an hour because there was only ONE person working while the rest of the staff was just hanging in the backroom - we could see them! A large family of 12 were in front of us, and the other lady who was doing the check-in told me off by saying she is not available and then disappeared into the ether. When we finally got in, we could not find a working locker. Every available locker we tried was busted.
We went through all of the areas until I found two next to each other that we could use. That took another half an hour.
Finally inside, we checked out the park immediately, and had a nice swim. We aimed to get there during the world cup finale so I have to say the place was not as crowded as some other reviews mention, which is probbaly because of the game.
The water was warm enough - but could have been a few degrees warmer - but the air temperature was anything but tropical. We definitely would have benefited from having dressing gowns with us, but we did not think we needed them. The place is COLD when you get out of the water which makes for an uncomfortable 'beach' experience.
Of the two pools we tried, the second one (in the Lagune are) with waterfalls and whirpools was much better than the first one. The slides were fun, but some of them were closed off - including the Amazonia area which is outside - which was disappointing but, I am glad we did not get to experience it as many people got hurt according to to other reviews.
The bar adjancent to the smoking area was closed which was extremely disappointing because we had to go and find drinks elsewhere and go back each time we wanted a fag.
The Laguna bar did not have Pina Colada, nor the wheat beer. Their explanation was that the 'machine was broken'. Who needs a machine for a cocktail? Other places were not using any machine s for the cocktails we subsequently managed to order. A sign that says they are out of those things would prevent unnecesary long queueing. We ended up going elsewhere anyway.
I am also not sure why it was so difficult to bring a keg of beer to the main 'beach bar' in Laguna.
The Thai place we had lunch at was good, and the waiters were nice which was a welcome change because every other employee either had a frown on their face or were rude to us. They gave us cocktails to go but with a caution/Pfand of 3 eur.
When we wanted extra towels because the ones we brought were soaking wet, we had to stand in line for 20 minutes as the Information centre was not staffed at all, and nobody even looked at the queue until I asked them to. We were told that we have to go to the Sauna area. Which we did. Only, no one was there and when someone finally appeared - a man with a trolley full of green tea - he told us off and said it's closed and we have to go back to the Info desk. He was extremely rude and unwelcoming.
The Sauna and Spa area closes at 9, but the website says it's open until 11:30. It's a very nice, spacious area which unfortunately we did not get to experience fully because we spent more than half an hour waiting around in hopes we can get some towels. The restaurant in that area also did not open at all that day.
The temperature and the pressure of the pblic showers was fine, but there was clumped hair everywhere and clearly no one has cleaned them all day which is pretty disgusting. Someone also stole my boyfriend's towel, so he had to take the one they left which just added to a series of bad experiences.
We went to the Ohana bar to watch the game - which opened only at 17:00 - and the same bad experience continued - overworked and overwhelmed staff, a 20 minute queue to get drinks, wet chairs in an area where there should not be as the beahc clothing is 'not allowed' there, random kids 'playing' the pool (throwing balls around and making horrible noise constantly). We could not even go out and have a smoke as the exit was only for the overnight stay guests, we had someone let us out and back in.
When we wanted to leave, my bracelet was accepted immediately, but my boyfriend was stuck behind the machine as it would not accept his. We saw this happening a lot when we were in thr Info desk queue, many people were stuck and unable to leave which made the queues huge. The whole place looks like it hasn't been mainained properly - from the sign outside which appears to have been there since the Cold War to the whole infrastucture.
The staff are inefficient, overwhelmed, and EVERYTHING in there is overpriced. No drinking water available anywhere, you have to buy it. We did not choose to get a refillable cup because it's clearly a scam - 19 eur and you can refill it every 45 minutes, but you don't get the money for the bottle back - you get the privilege of taking it home, and IF you come back, you can BUY the refill option again for 17 eur. Outrageous.
A few people mentioned animal abuse, and at this point I have to agree. I do not believe that a place that's run this poorly takes proper care of the animals they use to 'spruce' the place up: the flamingos looked happy enough, but I am not an expert and have only seen them for a few minutes. The two Macaws seemed quite distressed, though, and I felt very bad for them.
BTW the cockroaches everyone is mentioning are - allegedly - not cockroaches but a type of an insect needed for the environment, there is a sign that explains that.
- There were plenty of whistle-happy lifeguards around, but be wary of theft. Be SURE you locked your locker, and if you can't find one, leave your valuables in the small lockers next to the Sauna entrance. Hold on to your towels.
- There is a shuttle bus which is not reliable in the evening, be careful not to get stuck there if you rely on public transport.
-Everything is overpriced, no healthy options. No drinkable water, you have to pay for it. The cocktails are not worth the money. Get your own food from home if you can.
- The place is run-down and hasn't been maintained properly in years. It really shows. The staff are overworked and judging by their faces, underpaid. I thought it might be kid-friendly, but I saw other reviews left by families and it's not even that. We REALLY regret going, money and time wasted, birthday ruined.
