TOP hotel with weaknesses, breakfast and many single receipts.
An increase is possible at breakfast. Buns well, fried eggs are partly "stacked" on top of each other in a warming container with sausages and bacon (unfortunately not crusty). Cold cuts a lot of cooked sausages. Butter is still hard, no problem for me.
The bar is unwelcoming. Seating very flat and at reception.

Location is not everything...
Breakfast offer rather below average in terms of both choice and presentation. The boiled eggs, but unfortunately also the scrambled eggs, were cold, the latter also much too firm. Vegetables (tomatoes/cucumbers/red+yellow peppers) for the season watery in taste...there you can also buy other goods in summer. Cheese selection okay, cold cuts pale and untempting. Tea was only available as the simplest tea bag version, so no taste experience either, especially if the tea (as unfortunately has become common nowadays!) does not come to the table infused, but water and bags separately. Since the coffee machine water is rarely really boiling, it also comes to the table cooled further, so that the mere hanging in of the simple tea bag brings out even less aroma....but this is in fact a weakness in many hotels (for tea drinkers).
However, what we never had in this hotel segment - in fact not even simpler - was that the cappuccio was charged with 4.50€ during the official breakfast time (and without prior announcement)!! At the end of the eighties this was still common in D, but today every simple coffee machine spits out this "speciality" just as quickly and hardly more expensively... so this is all about the principle, not the amount.
However, this "novelty" is all about the amount (so we have never had it - and we have been travelling a lot for 22 years): After booking a massage appointment, I asked for a bathrobe to go to the treatment in it, and learned that one could be brought to me for a fee (how much was not mentioned on my own initiative).... Over the years, we have come to the opinion of our own accord that - for ecological reasons - it is not necessary to provide each room with two bathrobes and so many hotels now hold it.... However, we have not had it so far that the then explicitly requested coat will be invoiced, namely with 8,--€. As I said, in a hostel or pure business hotel or similar, this would still be expected, but in a 4* holiday hotel??!? Okaaaay
Well, and then the room: When booking on the hotel’s own site, only two room categories appeared to be available for the desired date (simple double or junior suite with sea view). We opted for the latter and were then not a little surprised to find the suite directly under the pitched roof, as a result of which it was badly angled and provided with many, sometimes low slopes AND also had no balcony (only a floor-to-ceiling window with railings in front of it, but which was also not so wide that one could have had at least some balcony feeling when opening all wings).
In relation to the overall size of the room, the bathroom was small or so narrow - especially the shower!!! - that the simultaneous use as a couple offered a latent shock hazard; one should have looked more at the architect's fingers. Otherwise, the visual design for a junior suite was also really very economical, so uninviting or cozy, functionally halting; and the flat screen TV mentioned in the description was at least in the bedroom no bigger than my PC screen - and I have a normal one. Upon check-in I learned on request that there were certainly junior suites with a proper balcony, whereupon I remarked that it would only be fair to mention at the time of booking or at the latest at check-in that in this case you would get a suite without..... the young lady at the reception could at least understand that and wanted to pass the note on to the reservation.
Speaking of reservations - and thus also to the last point: As I said, I had booked these two nights on the hotel's own page on July 2nd for the arrival on July 15th (I noticed on the confirmation email that a cancellation fee of 90% should be due right from the booking day, so not - as is often the case - up to 7 days before arrival or so...I found unusual but okay). In fact, on July 7, unfortunately, it happened that we had to reconsider our plans (friends we planned to visit fell ill, so that the arrival on the 15th would have been pointless), which is why I asked first by phone, then by email for information on whether we could cancel if necessary, but even prefer to postpone the booking? That they insisted on the cancellation fee, I could still understand (although it should not be so impossible to get a new rental in July...), but that they showed such zero willingness to allow us to visit sometime in autumn, for my sake also winter (we have to go to Grömitz again and again) or to issue a corresponding voucher, that was beyond our understanding. The person from the reservation also became increasingly "slim-lipped" in their mail and was not ready to realize that we did not want to deny them the sales, but only to provide them at a later date. So we did not cancel and drove and at least we were lucky with the weather....
So, in sum, we record: Too bad, this will not be a repeater, because price-performance is not really convincing. 280,00/room/night incl. joyless breakfast is then a bit too much even for the high season.... sooooo hip Grömitz is then again not.
