Hotel de la Poste. To flee
Chablis wine with undrinkable glass
Very aggressive boss when asked about provenance
Generic wine!!! What a shame to promote Chablis wines
Fortunately there is the historic café on the square that serves wine by the glass with the bottle in hand Real professionals actually
The Hôtel de la Poste has no place and we do not know how it got a terrace that reduces the street to 1 lane!!!

You should find somewhere else to eat
All plats were so small, not enough to one person.
We waited too long to have our meals.

Dinner on the street in Chablis drinking Chablis
My husband is a vegetarian and we struggled to find something for him to eat in Chablis
We found a pasta dish with a herby cheese sauce For him, I had chicken in a Chablis sauce with sautéed potatoes and ratatouille.
We also had a bottle of Chablis ‘obviously’ choosing from the 5 pages of Chablis was challenging but all in all it was a lovely meal.
We sat out front of the restaurant/hotel people watching and were joined by some locals - always a good sign!

Quaint hotel - typically French
Great location in the middle of town on one of the main squares.
Rather a rambling layout and watch out for tripping hazards, it would have been better to have been escorted to the room, it was not a matter of translation, it was simply quite confusing on how to find the room.
Room was of reasonable size and clean, however, is due for an update - this is not to lose the character of such old French hotels, which I would never endorse, simply some subtle updates would suffice.
Also typically French and stern faced manageress but that said again well in keeping with "real French" experience - this would not put me off recommending this hotel.
If you do visit Auxerre - truly an undiscovered gem in France - spend and evening as we did in one of the bars / restaurants down by the river side. You will look up in amazement at the sky line of the town, brimming with cathedrals, churches and historic buildings.
Trying to get by on my limited French was fine and appreciated by the town’s residents.
Hotels restaurant was quite charming and breakfast good.
