Very Comfortable 2 Star Hotel!
The hotel is located a little more than 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas and it is an uphill walk. The room was very clean, quiet, comfortable and had all the amenities of a 2 star hotel. It is 4 floor hotel without an elevator. Upon arrival the suitcase had to be lugged up to the 3rd floor...being the first day the altitude had an affect. The personnel of the hotel were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good...there were several options of juice, coffee, teas, entrees and the local bread (chapla) was provided with butter and marmalade. The breakfast employees were very attentive and friendly.

Excellent breakfast and stiff beds
I stayed at this place over the Easter weekend, which means that the prices were about 3 times the normal rate, but that is what happens in Ayacucho during the Semana Santa.
The good: The hotel is located 2 blocks away from the plaza and seems to be in a safe area. The room was ok, nothing special. There was hot water most of the time and the wifi worked in the room. Breakfast was excellent, with eggs, coffee, fresh juice and different options every day.
The not so good: the beds were very, very firm, which was uncomfortable to sleep on, there is little air circulation and the acoustics of the place are a terrible (you can hear everyone up and down the hall and up and down the stairs).

Average
I've stayed at the Rivera on two occasions now and it is definitely decent value for the money. Very clean with a better than average included breakfast (including fresh juice and choice of eggs). The WiFi is sub-par; slow while connected, and constantly dropping out in-room. I found the smell of whatever cleaning products they use to be overpowering at times. On my first visit there was lots of hot water and water pressure, on my second visit water pressure was decent but there was no hot water. Street front rooms should be avoided if you are a light sleeper. The second floor street front room I stayed in on my second visit was extremely hot and the hotel did not have any fans available. Great location about two blocks away from the main square.

Excellent stay!
Stayed three nights and enjoyed three delicious breakfasts in the dining area (local bread plus options for eggs, cheese and avocado...always fresh juice and coffee too. Very clean. Front desk and housekeeping very friendly. Occasionally hot water was short in the evenings, so if you stay here, try to shower while the sun is out (I think that's the local custom).

Buen hotel
Estuve en el congreso de pediatría en Ayacucho y nos hospedaron en el hotel rivera, felizmente me tocó en el segundo piso ya que el hotel no tiene ascensor a pesar de tener varios pisos y no todas las personas pueden subirlos o quizás les afecte la altura como a mí. Por lo demás tiene lo necesario como una amplia cama y agua caliente. Esta a 2 cuadras de la plaza de armas lo que es un buen punto a favor.
