Location It’s nice to come back to a place where you can have a rest after an eventful day in the city Hotel «Thaler» is located in Bad Haering. This hotel is located in walking distance from the city center. You can take a walk and explore the neighbourhood area of the hotel. Places nearby: Hochmaisbahn Cable Car, Maisilift Ski Lift and Almbahn Ski Lift.At the hotel You can stop by the bar. Taste the local cuisine and have a rest in the restaurant. Specially for tourists who travel by car, there’s a parking zone.

Good basic 3* hotel
My husband and I visited this hotel at the end of May on a Shearings coach holiday.
I'm a bit baffled about the bad reviews about this hotel. We were greeted on arrival by one of the reception staff who explained about meal times etc. Our cases were taken up to our room very quickly. Our room was at the back of the annexe building which is just across the road from the main building and had lovely views of the surrounding hills and woods. It was very spacious, having a balcony, twin beds, separate loo and bathroom which had a bath with an overhead shower and twin wash hand basins. It was very clean, had comfortable beds and plenty of wardrobe and storage space and was very peaceful. We were on an all included basis. Breakfast consisted of a mainly cold buffet with fresh fruit salad, a choice of cereals, cold meats, cheese and various breads and rolls. There was also hot scrambled egg each day. Lunch was always a packed lunch consisting of a filled roll, an apple and a carton of juice. Dinner consisted of 4 courses starting with a salad buffet, soup, a main course and a dessert. The menu was on the daily info sheet provided on the breakfast table. You could ask for an alternative main course and special diets were catered for. The food was perfectly acceptable if a little unimaginative. We were on an all inclusive basis and this included drinks (beer, wine, tea, coffee, soft drinks and water) from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Also lovely cakes are available in the cafe bar from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. which were absolutely delicious. Entertainment is provided each evening in the cafe bar in the annexe building. We were entertained by a singer one evening and on one evening there was a Tyrolean evening. We had a special Tyrolean buffet for dinner followed by entertainment from a local group of young dancers all in national dress so plenty of lederhosen slapping! The lounge is fully non-smoking and very comfortable with a bar and an outside seating area where smoking is permitted. There is a lovely indoor swimming pool in the main building which is free to use. There is a charge for the sauna, steam room and whirlpool. There is an underground tunnel which connects the two buildings. Hinterthiersee is a pretty tiny village. There is a little Spar shop which is very handy, a few other hotels, a wood cutting yard and a beautiful church. There are some lovely walks to be had. There is a local bus service (ever couple of hours or so) down to Kufstein (quite a big town). It stops on the way at the next village down from Hinterthiersee called Thiersee. There are a few shops there and a lovely lake with a walking path around it. Down there is a lovely cafe and facilities. There are diving boards, swimming lanes etc and pedalos for hire for when the weather is warm and it does get very hot during July and August in the Tyrol. Looked lovely. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Family-run
We were here for skiing and the bus to Wilder Kaiser is an acceptable little walk from the hotel (5 min). The bus was not overcrowded...
The hotel is not the newest of its kind ;-)

Better than many of the reviews state - Shearings holiday
We stayed here last week as part of a 9 day Shearings holiday and were expecting it to be abysmal after reading the reviews.
Room plain but clean. The first time I didn't have to clean a room on a Shearings trip! Had a balcony with a good view. Room 37. Towels were naff, very thin, but still usable. Room cleaned each day, but not like you'd get in a 4 star in Spain!
Food - simple, no veg, lots of salad. Had to choose menu at breakfast. There was a choice but only the main, the starter and dessert was the same. I am trying to see if I'm lactose intolerant and they accommodated that, however, the alternative choice tended to be stewed apples. Most desserts had cream. All starters were soup. Although the food was simple it was definitely edible and you could tell what it was!
Staff were okay, the owner a bit short but if you make an effort to smile and be pleasant it works back. Waitresses were okay. One was a bit serious but again was pleasant if you were the same. I think sometimes people expect things without making an effort themselves. As others have said, there was a non-smoking area, but next to smoking, so you could smell it. But, if you don't like it then go elsewhere.
We've been on a few holidays like this and this was the best we've had, so thank you to the hotel and Shearings.
Wifi only works in the reception area and then it was hit and miss, but there was a good signal across the road by the information office!
A lovely quiet village, spotless. Lots of walking. Not suitable if you want a wild night out. Deer nearby, a waterfall to walk to, pretty views and lovely churches, the graves in one were lit up with candles every night. Really lovely.
This is a hotel for those who like the outdoors and are happy occupying themselves. If you are looking for 4 star luxury go elsewhere, if you are looking for a simple place to lay your head and eat simple food, this is for you.

Reasonable hotel for cost
The hotel was our base for a Shearings coach holiday. After reading the reviews there was some trepidation about the accommodation, but it was generally unfounded.
The hotel double rooms were ample in size with a reasonable amount of storage, although mainly shelves rather than drawers. I found the bed comfortable and slept well. On arrival we were asked to label cases so that they could be carried quickly and efficiently to our rooms, there was no great problem with this and check-in was reasonably quick and efficient. There was a balcony which was pleasant to sit out on.
The bathroom and toilet were clean, if a little dated, but there was plenty of water, hot and cold, at a good pressure. The over the bath shower was efficient if a bit on the short side for a tall person.
Lots of plugs available in the room, so if you have to recharge a few things carry an extra adapter, there should be space for it.
There was no lounge as such and the bar was divided into a smoking and non-smoking area, which was a bit of a culture shock.
Food was OK. A pleasant soup each night followed by salad bar; a choice between two meat and carbs options (chosen in the morning) and a small dessert. There was one vegetarian option each night which was a little limited. Breakfast was continental - cereal; yoghurt; fruit; cheese; cold meat; rolls and a nice selection of bread. Although the tea could do with some improvement.
Staff were all helpful and generally pleasant.
Bearing in mind the cost of the holiday It was good value for money, although it may not be to everyone's taste as it is at the budget end.
One final note, the day we left the hotel closed for a month as it was between seasons. Whether this had an impact on the nature of the stay is uncertain, perhaps there some differences in the high season.

Staff very Austrian. A family concern all older members ultra efficient but cold. Worked so hard and efficiently but not interested in building camaraderie. Younger members of family very pleasant but mathematics not a strong point with one.
Breakfast buffet excellent.
Dinners salad bar identical each day . Hard to face after first couple of days but needed as dinner portions very tiny and not very tasty.
Overall food five out of ten at best.Breakfast helped dramatically to reach this rating.
Brown beer ran out third day but not replenished.
Smoking segregated but no physical barrier hence smoke pervaded. Through the building.
