How lucky I was to stay at Basel Backpack Hostel, where there was a resident, and the worst part was that she didn't give a f….ck about the other seven people in the room. It's summer, 27-40 degrees Celsius, and there's one fan in the room. On the first night, the resident turned off the fan, and the next day she attacked me because she couldn't sleep. It's 40 degrees outside. Are you kidding me? That's not all; the resident became attached to a stray cat, and I mentioned that I was allergic. Days later, the cat was living in the room. I spoke with management, and it was very clear that the resident wasn't respecting the hostel's policy because you have to pay a fee to have a pet. She did whatever she wanted, and then the management removed the cat outside the room. The resident complained that if she couldn't have the stray cat in the room, the room for eight guests couldn't have a fan either, which seems absurd since when I booked the room, it included a fan. The manager removed the cat and the fan from the room. I felt like I had to choose between struggling to breathe or dying of heatstroke—worst experience.

Friendly staff, sub-par accommodations

The check-in staff was very friendly, and it was in a fun, hipster-y location not too far from Basel SBB. Unfortunately, the rooms were extremely hot, there were some odd guests, and I found a silver fish on my pillow. My brother (who had booked a private room) also got locked in the bathroom because of a faulty lock, and the staff was not on hand to help. His wife finally got it open but smashed her finger in the process.

Fine place to stay but the experience was tainted by sexual assault and harassment from another resident.

Room was fine, me and my friend had it all to ourselves. People working there were nice and helpful. There was a cat too so that´s a plus. Old french man who was also staying in the hostel was creeping outside the room me and my friend were staying in. He also groped me and my friend the morning we were leaving. He took it upon himself to follow us downstairs and walk us out, after sitting on a chair outside our room the entire night trying to talk to us every single time we left to use to the bathroom. We left at 4 am and he was still sitting right outside our room. Since the desk closes early, we could not inform anyone of this bad behavior and our uncomfortability. Other than our experience with one of the other guests, it was a fine room with nice staff.

Not bad

Decent hostel that was cheaper than the others in Basel. i was expecting less tbh. Staff were good and let me check in early. Location is close enough to the train station and buses run nearby. Dorms were ok. there were lockers but no privacy curtains. kitchen was reasonable. not much of a common area and i didn't see anyone socialising.
