3 star hotel for 5 star money!
For a luxury property charging top-tier rates, the basic standards of service and maintenance simply do not exist here.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement.
Check-in was a breeze, the building itself lovely and the staff helpful but from then on everything was awful.....
We walked into a room with torn bed sheets (I could fit my head in the hole) and questionable cleanliness.
They changed the sheet when we noticed the daily cleaners had just tucked it back in, but when they did change it, they just left it on the floor in our room.
To find damaged linen and sloppy housekeeping at an InterContinental is pretty unacceptable.
The door bell to our room was broke (like many other things in the room) so staff were just opening the door and barging in. It was completely invasive and ruined any chance of relaxing.
We left after the first night and didnt even use our free second night which comes with the ambassador program, such a waste.
We complained to the manager who was nice enough but still....
The grand facade is just a cover for terrible operational standards, sub-par maintenance, and zero staff training. Save your money and stay somewhere that actually respects its guests.

Not 5* at the Intercontinental
Check in was quick but with virtually no information given about the hotel's facilities.
We were given a room on level 8 the Ambassador floor however there was nothing Ambassadorial about this hotel room.
It looks like a business person's hotel room with an overly large desk, bathoom is from the 1980's with a room view of the filtfhy glass rootop from the hotel atrium.
The bathroom fan went all night which interrupted our sleep however the gym junkies at some ungoldly hour dropping dumbells on the gym floor (which is 2 floors above) was enough to finally break us.
Don't park in the Rialto car park as they charge me $136 for 17 hours!
We didn't eat in the hotel but had drink at Ronnie's which does serve dinner.
This hotel like many others in Australia are long overdue for refurbishments. Asian hotels provide far superior service and rooms/suites.
All up a very disappointing stay.

Much better options available
Two days after departure I noticed a a sneaky additional charge on my credit card,once I made contact they told me it was for mini bar items which was perculiar as I had used nothing from the mini bar
I was told the amount would be credited back to my account but it’s a week later and surprise surprise still no refund.
My advice to you is when this hotel comes up as an option to stay in Melbourne keep scrolling,you can thank me later
