The Middlegate Hotel is located in the center of Pembroke’s main street, close to Mill Pond and a 10-minute walk from the railway station. This traditional hotel has onsite a restaurant, cafe, bar and live music/ function room.

It’s a room rental - not a hotel.
Room was functional - like shared 1980s uni accommodation. It’s not like the website. It’s room only. No breakfast, no lounge, no bar ( they are there they are just mothballed).
Secure car park is good and staff are friendly for the appointed check in hour. Decor is very dated and room noisy.
Check out seems to be a case of leaving the keys in the room door.

Loud music at night, no privacy, limited reception hours, shower out of order
Unfortunately I had an unpleasant stay at the Middlegate Hotel - I stayed for 2 nights in Sept. 2025.
There was very loud music playing late into the night (until 11pm) on a weekday which made it impossible for me to sleep. A band playing very loud music right under my room.
This is not acceptable and made my stay at the hotel a miserable and a very negative experience.
And during the day there were strange people coming by my window and looking into and inspecting my room thereby violating my privacy. Again - this is unacceptable.
Thirdly, the shower was out of order and of course no one was present at the reception.
A functioning shower is essential as well as privacy and quiet night time.

We would like to clarify a few points regarding your comments. A member of staff was on-site throughout your stay and available to assist with any issues, but no concerns were raised to us at the time. Had we been made aware, we would have gladly addressed them immediately.
Regarding the music, the event taking place on the evening of your stay ended at 11pm, which is within permitted hours. We do understand, however, that noise can still be disruptive, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
We also take privacy very seriously. The individuals outside during the day were contractors carrying out routine maintenance on the property, and they had no intention of disturbing guests. We’re sorry if this made you feel uncomfortable.
As for the shower, it was checked following your departure and found to be in working order, but we acknowledge that any difficulty in using the facilities can be frustrating.
While we were unable to offer a refund—as the room and facilities were provided in accordance with the booking terms—we genuinely value your feedback and will use it to further improve our guest experience.

Very neglected property.
I booked this hotel in advance but cancelled on arrival. The owner seems rather out of touch, everything was a joke. The website is very out of date - there are no tea or coffee facilities, there is no free breakfast and the hotel is actually above a pub so I was informed on arrival that there would be live music there and therefore very loud. Owner seemed to think it strange that I was not keen on this idea. Other than that the place is filthy. The exterior windows are covered in dirt and cobwebs. There’s a heavy smell of mould when you walk in the front door. The carpet in the bar area was strewn with pieces of packaging, even cigarette ends and the room itself was very small and the yellowed furniture made it look dirty. The building itself is rather disorganised, the function room was full of dismantled furniture and building equipment which was a bit of a safety hazard.

Dirtiest hotel ever
Ive stayed at hotels in Africa and Eastern Europe but never one as dirty and smelly as this. Checking in was difficult as door locked at 1,15 which was in one of two timeslots to check in. I had to enter through cafe next door and check iin on the bar. This are was run down and very smelly. Although breakfast was not included we did not fancy eating there. Room was just ok with kettle but no tea coffeee or milk. There was no hot water most of the time and sink bizarre approx four feet above the floor. Room not cleaned during our 3 night stay nor towels changed. There was no space to hang these after washing. I dont know how anyone can give this more than one star which is too high. Definitely wont return

Booked for work guys.. once booked I was sent an email regarding restricted booking in time giving 12-1 or 6-7.. husband went across to pick up key.. proprietor took to booked room.. very very tired…
