Lovely food…
We were pleasantly surprised, as I was not expecting good things especially having a very disappointing evening the night before in a similar establishment.
The decor and building are lovely. Olde English and cosy. A proper British place.
However, there was no music on and very few people inside (during peak evening meal time), so no atmosphere whatsoever.
My husband had the salt and pepper combo and I had the lamb burger. He said it was the best meal he had eaten all week and was very happy! The ribs were full of meat with no fat. He loves the sauce that was on the meats and the curry sauce that came with it.
My lamb burger was lovely, and you could clearly tell it was proper, fresh herdwick lamb. Lovely chips.
Staff very friendly, although because of no music we overheard a conversation which paused us. One of the young staff members and the manager were having a conversation about a guest, with a payment issue. The guest has booked via Expedia and had shown the girl her bank account to prove the stay had been paid for. However, Expedia had not passed the payment to the property. The manager told the young girl that when the guest came down in the morning she had to get her to pay for her stay again directly to them - basically paying twice, with the customer having to take it up with Expedia. Sorry, but that’s not on. If you advertise your business via a third party booking platform and there are payment issues as described here, that’s for you as the business to sort with Expedia once your guest has proven payment has been made. It was disgraceful to hear you were going to charge her. Also part of the conversation was that this has happened with Expedia before - then dont do business with them.
We hope that the guest in question refused to pay again and stood their ground. If anyone is reading this thinking of staying, book direct, do not book via a third party or you may have issues.
Also to note - limited hours serving food, which I can’t understand during a period of time when businesses are telling the government they are struggling :-/
