Château Visz
The Chateau Visz is located amid a large park, about 12 km from Balatonlelle and Lake Balaton. It offers you elegant rooms, fine cuisine, an indoor pool and free Wi-Fi. The walls in every guest room are decorated with Hungarian paintings from the early 20th century. Each of the individually furnished rooms is named after one of the painters. A monthly updated 7-course gourmet menu is available in the elegant winter garden restaurant of the Chateau Visz. It is highly recommended to reserve a table in advance. A special menu for vegetarians or guests with allergies can be prepared if requested in advance. Wellness facilities include a sauna, a hot tub and a fitness area. Disclaimer notification: Amenities are subject to availability and may be chargeable as per the hotel policy.

An exceptional experience, worth to come back again and again
The venue and location are fascinating! A genuine treasure box this was. Very professional, well-educated, outstandingly helpful staff. Lovely spa and gym facilities. Pet-friendly :)
Breakfast was excellent, meet all different kind of individual expectations.
Dinner - fine dining supreme level!
Strongly recommend experiencing and enjoy!

We are at the moment on the terrasse, after a remarkable dinner with two glasses of wine, enjoying the most cordial service in great human formed nature. Behind us is a chateau really worth to be called (small) castle with so much style and intimity.
If someone ever plans an engagement and looks for the absolute place: Chateu Vice!

What a shame...
What a lovely place in gorgeous surroundings and lovely walking in the woods while devouring wild strawberries by the dozen... Staff charming and helpful at all times but....
We arrived to a nice reception and lead to our room with balcony, nice... and a bed made of a plank of solid oak! Well this is how it felt. Asked for a softer alternative but the "only" member of staff was receptionist, porter as well as bar man and serving dinner! 5 stars... strange. But amazingly efficient considering. We were given some extra duvets and pillows and told it would be sorted the next day.
Dinner was expected to be a treat, we had heard this was a gastro hotel and a 5 star treat... pretentious and overcooked and a sweet raspberry/tomato soup between savoury courses... mmmmm, not good and the salmon was pretty much incinerated. Normally such a good fish... what a shame
So after a pretty much sleepless night due to oak mattresses with a middle barrier that made a cuddle impossible we woke to a beautiful day and a nice breakfast followed by a gorgeous walk in the strawberry strewn woods. A beautiful lunch at a local restaurant down by the lake, Gianpiero's (worth a visit for good simple cooked food), and a dip in the lake to boot, the water was cold but nice. We returned with the promise of new mattresses which had arrived and most welcomed. Great a good night ahead... but no.
But this regardless. We spent the afternoon in the truly well equipped and luxurious spa. Really nice... except for the indoor ice lake they call a swimming pool! We were assured it was a constant 24 degreesssssssszzzzz... NOT! Made the lake feel like the Caribbean!
So our next dinner was really no better than the last with massively overcooked duck breast...but to add to the injury of severely damaged bird my girlfriend had a simple leaf salad. This arrived and looked like it was straight out of a supermarket mixed salad bag! Not good, but we went along with this until we were given the bill!... More than 25 Euros for her simple supermarket plate of suspect leaves. I am sorry but with one thing and another... forgive me but I went ballistic! HOW MUCH!!!!!!!
Too upset to sleep, my girlfriend too... another sleepless night more or less. Got up early, a quick breakfast and got the hell out of Dodge to lick our wounds back in Budapest : (
The long and short of it is that this gorgeous place was understaffed and the restaurant served disasters by a pretentious chef and the place, however beautiful, felt unloved by the self-righteous owners. The client did not come first. Not one I would return to...

Very classy accommodation; less classy culinary experience
This hotel is about 145 kilometres from Budapest and is extremely easy to find once you get off the motorway at the 135 km. mark. It provides extremely elegant accommodation with a lot of great touches. The rooms are well-appointed and the hotel and grounds are maintained immaculately. Common areas are very tastefully furnished. The service is friendly and competent, although there were a couple of lapses in service at dinner. For the techies, the WiFi is free, of high speed and works very well throughout. A small point, but I would have thought a hotel of this standing could provide shampoo in the bathroom!
I don't think there is much to do around the place except go for walks in the quiet countryside which surrounds the estate. That said, there is an indoor pool, small gym, sauna and a couple of other health/fitness rooms. When we went, only two other couples dined either side of our booking, so the restaurant was not well patronised for a Saturday night.
This is probably not a place to bring the family, but it is one where you would probably centre your time away on the dining experiences and the limited leisure activities. We had dinner, and breakfast the next day. For the former, there is a set menu and you are invited to choose from between 3 and 7 menu items. (I should say that, when booking, we were asked if we had any special dietary requirements). The price range for these extremes is HUF 16,000 to HUF 28,000 per person, which excludes extras like drinks and coffees. (The breakfast offer too is pre-set, but it is extensive and extends to eggs and omelettes on request).
All dinner portions are very small so few would find the 3 course option to be enough. We went for four but our stomachs probably would have been better served with 5. There seems to be an emphasis on local produce, which is great. But there were no real great heights with the meals, particularly given how expensive the package was - the beef fillet was good, as was a duck appetiser though. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the meal and we had no real complaints about the quality or service, but neither of us felt we were getting a special meal.
This was a very expensive one night away and I am glad we took the opportunity to check the Chateau out. It is certainly a special and different place to stay in, but the dining was not the outstanding experience we probably expected.

Unique hospitality
Very nice place, beautiful environment, attentive service. It was raining when we arrived and the staff came out to welcome us with 2 umbrellas and took care of all our luggage. In the morning our car was already cleaned from snow so we could comfortably use it right away.
The dinner and the wellness was very nice, special only for us as we were the only guests on those days. The best beds we have been ever sleeping (outside of home)!
For improvement: shampoo & hair conditioner would be nice in the room taking into consideration that people might wash their hair in a wellness hotel. Breakfast could come with different selection day by day (1st day the pastries were warm but not on the 2nd day anymore), eg with fruits, milk products, etc.
The dinner and the wellness was very nice, special only for us as we were the only guests on those days. The best beds we have been ever sleeping (outside of home)!
