A genuinely special stay – beautiful setting and exceptional Thai hospitality
We stayed at SALA Chaweng Beach Resort for 10 nights in June, travelling with my two adult children. Having stayed in a number of good hotels over the years, I have to say that SALA really stood out — not just because of the beautiful setting, but because of the quality of the people and the genuine hospitality throughout our stay.
We arrived on Koh Samui after a few days in Bangkok and, following an unfortunate experience at another hotel, made a last-minute decision to book SALA directly. We arrived just 15–20 minutes after making the reservation, so we weren’t expecting anything particularly elaborate. We couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised.
From the moment we arrived, we received the warmest of Thai welcomes. Cold towels were offered immediately, which were very welcome after the journey, and the check-in was efficient, friendly and professional. Within minutes we were being taken to our room.
We had booked a Beachside Garden Suite, and it was fantastic. The room was extremely spacious, with a large bed plus an additional bed for our third guest, a beautiful rain shower, bathtub and our own private pool. There was also a lovely seating area outside with a ceiling fan, overlooking the main pool and, beyond it, the beach.
The little touches made a difference too, including the complimentary refreshing fruit drink provided each day.
The beach is exceptional
The real jewel in the crown, however, is the beach.
SALA occupies a beautiful, quieter section at the northern end of Chaweng Beach. The sand is incredibly soft and white, the water is crystal clear and wonderfully shallow, and the whole area has a much more relaxed feel than the busier parts of Chaweng.
There were always plenty of loungers available, along with comfortable bean bags along the beachfront. The beach team were excellent — attentive without being intrusive, incredibly efficient and always friendly.
The hotel also provides complimentary kayaks and other water activities, which were great fun because the sea in this part of Chaweng is so calm.
There is quite a lot of coral in the water, so you need to take care when entering the sea, but the water is so clear that it is easy to see where you’re stepping.
Breakfast and the staff
Breakfast was excellent, with a very good selection of fresh fruit, cold meats, fried rice and other buffet choices, alongside an à la carte menu where eggs could be prepared exactly as you wanted them.
I have to make a special mention of Sao and Jenny.
Sao was absolutely exceptional. She knew all three of our names from the first day and, incredibly, within a few days she already knew what we wanted for breakfast before we had even ordered. She was consistently warm, friendly and genuinely interested in making sure we were looked after.
Jenny was also extremely helpful and friendly throughout our stay.
People often say that it’s the staff who make a hotel, and Sao and Jenny are perfect examples of that. Please make sure they know how much their efforts were appreciated.
The main pool is also beautifully designed, with comfortable poolside beds and large floating rings provided by the hotel — perfect for spending a lazy afternoon.
My daughter also used the gym on several occasions and was very impressed with the facilities.
Perfect location
The location worked perfectly for us. SALA is peaceful and relaxing, but you’re only a 5–10 minute walk from the busier part of Chaweng if you want more restaurants, bars and nightlife.
We walked out for dinner most evenings and, having hired a car, also explored other parts of Koh Samui, including Lamai.
There were occasionally some very large groups of guests during our stay who were particularly loud and demanding (I won’t mention from where but most can guess) and on occasions appeared to have friends visiting from outside the hotel. We actually felt sorry for the staff having to deal with some of this behaviour, as it wasn’t consistent with the atmosphere or standard of the hotel. It was, however, a relatively minor issue during what was otherwise an outstanding stay.
Would we return? Absolutely.
The team at SALA looked after us from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, and we were genuinely sad to go.
What impressed me most wasn’t simply the beautiful beach, the excellent suite or the facilities. It was the consistency of the service and the warmth of the people.
SALA managed to give us exactly what you want from a stay in Thailand — beautiful surroundings, a relaxed atmosphere and that genuine Thai hospitality that makes you feel welcome rather than simply like another guest.

One of the best stays I’ve ever had
I have stayed at several hotels/resorts throughout my travels - SALA Chaweng was one of the best. The room, the resort, the dining and the staff were all top tier. I hope to bring the rest of my family here someday!

Absolute dream hotel for our honeymoon!
Absolute dream hotel!
We were on Koh Samui for two weeks and the hotel was the perfect choice for our stay.
The staff was super nice and we looked forward to great conversations every day. The rooms are very clean and smell wonderful. The welcome with the individual selection of bed linen, pillows, and soaps was an absolute highlight.
The property has a wonderful beach and is very centrally located. In the immediate vicinity are various shopping options & restaurants.
Breakfast as well as dining in the hotel's own restaurant were very delicious. There was fresh afternoon tea in the room every day.
We had an Oceanfront Balcony Pool Suite. Absolute recommendation to enjoy the view of the gulf and have some privacy.
The spa and wellness area is very well known on Koh Samui. The couples massage was an unforgettable experience.
We will definitely be back!

Amazing experience
The Sala Samui Chaweng Beach Resort was amazing. Everything was just as promised. The room was great (we had a room with a beach view and private pool). We really enjoyed the resort facilities... food, restaurants, pools, beach, pampering etc... It was a great holiday.

The best hotel in samui
We originally had a reservation at another hotel, and switching to Sala turned out to be the best decision we made during our trip. The location is absolutely perfect — it’s peaceful and relatively quiet, yet just a one-minute walk from all the hustle and bustle. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay!
