Breakfast was liitle to Continental for me. Nice bar with lots of good brands on a stand reachable for guests. Cool approach. Will return

Its a pleasure to stay at the Hotel Am Weiher
For all guests, especially business users, the internet signal is good and strong throughout the hotel. Also there are 100 or more 'free' parking spaces available within a 2 minute walk of the hotel, which never struggle for availability.
Within 5 minutes walk across the square you can be in central Erkelenz with a choice of cafe's, shops and simple mini marts for the things you forgot to pack.
It is the perfect choice for a business or leisure stay in Erkelenz.

I spent 10 days in this hotel
I can assure you that the hotel is run by some very nice women who made our stay very comfortable. The hotel is very quiet. I never found a way to regulate the temperature in the room, however, we were there in May and the outside temp was pleasant and I just cracked open the door and let the fresh air in all night.
Compared to an average U.S. hotel, the showers in the bathroom are very strange. I and my friends had an open floor with a shower curtain. This made taking a shower messy as the whole floor of the bathroom got wet. Sometimes, European designs are just not perfect. Also, they do not provide shampoo, just a body wash dispenser on the wall. Since I have very little hair, this was not a problem!
If you are from the U.S., bring wall power adapters. You can get them very cheap from e-bay or Amazon. Bring three or four of them as you would be surprised how many things you generally plug in. Look for "schuko to edison" adapters, they can be as cheap as $2 or $3. Most all devices these days will work with 120 and 240 volt power, just check your device to make sure. However. be warned, U.S. power strips will not work and will burn up quickly. If you need a power strip, buy it in the country. There is a big Home Depot type store there in Erkelenz called "OBI" and they have everything hardware.
Like earlier reviews mention, downtown Erkelenz is a very short walk. There are many restaurants and a couple of pubs in town. We ate one night at a large Greek restaurant and had a great time. Also, across the street and down a hundred yards is a small, fast food place called "Side Pizza". They have great Gyros and pizza, plus a large menu of many German and Turkish foods. This was our default place to eat after work each day. Surprisingly, we never got tired of eating there.
We flew into Dusseldorf airport and rented a van. The parking for this hotel is across the street in a public (free) parking lot. In the morning and during the day, it can be full. But after 5:00pm, the lot mostly cleared out and parking was never a problem for us.
The hotel is on the edge of a great little duck-pond-park. It is hidden from the road and you would never know it was there unless you were in an exploring mood. Very serene and natural, i enjoyed walking around it several times.
Breakfast is included with the hotel room. It is a very nice breakfast with both German and American choices. Eggs, fruit, cheeses, bread, even cereal... plus, at the bar they will gladly make coffee for you as custom and good as Starbucks would. No extra charge for this service... just smiling and attentive staff.
The hotel is VERY secure. There is a outside and inside secured door. I was a week into my stay when I realized that the room door do not automatically lock when you shut them! I just assumed that they did, but I figured out that you had to lock your door with the key from the inside. Not that it ever mattered, this hotel was like staying in your grandmother's home.
The rooms were cleaned daily and were very clean indeed. As I mentioned, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They have free WiFi, you just have to get the code from the front desk.
All in all, we had a very good experience here.

A work trip to Erkelenz, Germany.
The rooms were OK and kept exceptionally clean by the cleaners, I heard from a colleague that the restaurant was really good and it seemed full most nights, I saw one guy get turned away because of table space.
You are very close to town where you will find a quiet but ever so friendly atmosphere, we were your typical british oil rig workers always looking of a bar (and generally always finding one, wherever we are in the world) and here we felt welcome in all bars and restaurants we went too.
A very nice experience!
