Outstanding

After a month of travelling around Central Asia, we were tired of both homestays and sub par hotels, so we were very happy to stay at the Dostar Inn.
Our room was comfortable, the wi-fi worked well, and the staff spoke some English. Breakfast is included in all rates, although we left too early to try it.

Fine but a bit shabby

If you’re a tourist you’re probably only in Shymkent for 2 reasons - to cross over the border into Uzbekistan, or to go to Turkestan to see the sights - so in that respect the hotel is great. It’s literally opposite the Kolos car park where minibuses head down to the border crossing at Kaplanbek for the former, and a short Yandex right to the train station for the latter. The room and bathroom were both large (great pressure in the shower!) with plenty of storage space and a small fridge/minibar with drinks and snacks to purchase.
The hotel seems to have once been quite slick but seems to be fraying round the edges a lot however. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom when I checked in at 1am. The shower curtain was old and stained and stuck together in a lump at the bottom. Small bottles of shampoo provided but no body wash. One or two of the items in the minibar were out of date, and a kettle and cups are provided but no tea/coffee to put in them. One half of the king size bed was unusable, like lumpy concrete. Noise travels a lot and you’ll hear the slightest noise out in the hall (and the doors to other rooms are very loud). Finally, the pièce de resistance - a piece of A4 paper was stuck to the ceiling, evidently to cover a stain…
Fine for a short stay, but overall not that great.

Разочарованы

Дали тапочки б/у, даже распаковать не стали. На фото видно волосы, на вторых тапках большущее пятно. Напитки в минибаре просроченные. К слову сегодня 15 марта. Срок сока до января, срок спрайта и фанты истек неделю назад. Пыль и полы, судя по всему, тоже не часто вытирают.
