Kashmir-Heaven on Earth

Hotel Imroz is a normal budget hotel located at Mamta Chowk in Srinagar. The basement rooms are best and very very spacious however charges per night is around Rs3500-Rs4000 depending on the season. The first floor rooms are the actual budget ones charging Rs1500-Rs2200 depending on the season. The first floor rooms are functional and has a decent double bed with a clean bathroom/toilet. The blankets and bedsheets are not so decent and we had to request the caretaker boy to replace them. The rooms in the second floor where we stayed for two nights were the best. They were spacious with clean bedsheets and comfortably priced at Rs2500/- per night. The main negative aspects of Hotel Imroz are (i) No kitchen except for tea you have to eat outside (ii) Noise boarders specially in the budget rooms (iii) Not so clean bedsheets/blankets (iv) No central or room heating available making the floors which are tiled extremely cold. Positives are (i) Location wise close to Dal lake,market place and the best eatery in Srinagar The Mughal Durbar.(ii) Lot of budget shopping areas nearby (iii) You will get cars with drivers at a decent rate compared to other Luxury hotels where you could be charged a bomb. However now that I have more wisdom after my trip my recommendation to fellow travelers is either stay in house boats at Dal lake or in Hotel Hemal run by JKTDC (if the rates suit you), visit Sonmarg, Gulmarg, Mughal garden and the Shiv temple at Srinagar. Leave Srinagar after that and head for Pahalgam straight and spend at least 3nights there. My version of heaven is at Pahalgam. Cheers
