Bara Beach Bungalows
Situated in Bira, a few steps from Bara Beach, Bara Beach Bungalows features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. The resort also provides free WiFi as well as a paid airport shuttle service.

Very nice resort
The Bara Beach Resort can be reached after about a 6 1/2 hour drive from Makassar. We had booked a car with a driver in advance through the friendly Nisa, who drove us from Makassar to the Bara Beach Resort for approx. €50. About two kilometers before the towns of Bara and Bira, tourists must pay a kind of "tourist tax" of approx. €3 per person.
Since the bungalow booked via "booking.com" was inaccessible due to construction work, we were upgraded for the first five nights to bungalow no. 1, which has a direct ocean view.
The check-in with Nisa was friendly and professional, and we were able to move into the bungalow immediately. In front of the bungalow is a large, covered veranda with two chairs with a table and two good lounge chairs. The bungalow is very large, about 50 m2, and features a good double bed, AC, refrigerator, a sofa, desk with chair, and various storage options in the living area. Water is provided in the form of a bottle, which you can refill for free at a dispenser in the restaurant. The dispenser also offers the option to get hot water for those who have brought tea or coffee. The rooms at Bara Beach Bungalows are cleaned very quickly and are spotless. Even toilet paper is replenished.
The bathroom is also very spacious and features a nice shower.
Breakfast is available in the restaurant starting at 7 a.m.; the last order in the evening must be placed before 9 p.m.
There are no restaurants nearby, so you have to eat either at the Bara Beach Restaurant or at the restaurants of the other hotel complexes if you do not have your own transportation. There are smaller restaurants on the beach, but they are only open until late afternoon.
The menu at the Bara Beach Restaurant is quite extensive, however, and offers Western and Indonesian food, as well as fish dishes. For breakfast, there are five different versions to choose from. Snacks, such as fried bananas, are served all day long.
Anyone interested can book various services at the reception, such as massages (one hour for €10), laundry service, and excursions. The Wi-Fi is not overly good, at least in the rooms. In the restaurant area, however, it works well.
You can reach the beach via a small staircase. You can go directly into the water here; there are no beach chairs, as the beach is not very deep. The water is clean, and the sand on the beach is exceptionally white. On the beach, which could certainly use more frequent cleaning of algae and plastic, you can find many small pieces of coral. The beach in front of the Bara Beach Resort is okay and clean. However, if you walk about 300 meters to the right, you will come across a "natural beach."
We were here during the first two weeks of June. The resort was largely empty. The long journey and possibly the total isolation likely deter many tourists.

Lovely place!
Nice location on a beautiful beach. Quiet and Relaxing Mood.
You walk up a flight of stairs to the beach.
Nice spacious, clean bungalow.
Both breakfast and dinner are fine. Friendly staff, friendly staff.
They offer laundry Service and massage. The massage is done by a lady from the village. Super good! (7.50 euros for 1 hour)

Fine hotel for a few nights
We spent 2 nights in this hotel and we were quite pleased with our stay. We had a garden view bungalow. But the one behind the seaview one. And right next to the reception. Which made wifi reception good. The hotel only had a few other guests. The staff was very friendly and service was swift. Breakfast was included and was fairly simple but adequate for us. We had dinner here too because there aren’t many other options around. And we thought the food to be quite nice.
You can easily access the beach from the hotel via some steps. Not suitable for people who have difficulty with this.
The beach is nice and the seawater is warm. There are next to none services. Just a few shops that don’t look too appealing. There are no sunbeds for rent. There are quite a lot of places where locals appearantly meet and where they placed wooden chairs and sunbeds. Maybe for the weekend when the Indonesian people come for a day at the beach. We used these, but no one came to charge us. However, our backs payed the price… rockhard.
The beach itself has no plastic problem. All plastic is just burned in the evening..
Back to the hotelroom. Spacious and clean. As said here before, they should fire the guy who placed the toilet but for a few nights it’ll do. The shower is oke. Just no warm water in the evening. The airconditioner does a decent job. The porch is really nice to enjoy your evening drink that you can order from the bar. Just mind the time as they close early.
