A birding delight.

This Hotel is simple but rooms are very clean & beds comfortable. A lovely breakfast prepared to my liking is included. Best of all birding is exquisite while having breakfast. Hummingbirds, tanagers, woodpeckers and an agouti to name a few came to eat at feeders. The host Rodney has the names of guides, while somewhat expensive, will take us into the forest for more birding. In the area restaurants are plentiful and good. Travel to Mindo from Quito by bus or taxi is reasonable at about 2 hours. This is a one of a kind place if you love birds as I do.

Beware of the prices of the activities that the owner recommends you.

The garden is friendly with hummingbirds, tangaras and marsupials.
On the other hand, the beds of the rooms, they are a little old and the noise of dogs and people, it is unbearable! The rooms are not at all isolated.
Moreover, I advise you not to listen to the advisors of the owner (Rowny) when he recommends you an "ornithologist" guide unfortunately he recommended us a not terrible guide!
We were really disappointed that we listened to this gentleman. Disappointing experience with the bird guide. The speech lacked clarity and enthusiasm, and little effort was made to truly share his knowledge. It’s a shame, because bird watching could have been exciting with better support.

Steep Admission Price to View Bird Feeders

It was $6 each to view the hummingbird garden. We did see plentiful hummingbirds as well as a few other species of birds. There were a couple of agoutis in the area as well. We met the creator of the garden who definitely seemed very proud of his creation. Admission seemed a bit steep for the experience though.

Excellent Hummingbird Garden Experience

It was incredible! You get to see the hummingbirds up close. So many different species that I couldn’t keep track. My favorite part was holding the red lid on my hand and having them sit on my hand to feed.
