Great place!

This was the perfect place to stay in the la mariscal area. Erwin was a real diamond. He was really service minded. We booked for 2 nights and ended up staying for over a week. The rooms were clean and there was hot water. As soon as a bigger room was availavle we were offered it for the same price. Every night Erwin asked us what time we wanted breakfast. It did not matter if it was 6 o'clock in the morning or 11 o'clock. It was always ready. We enjoyed every minute at hostel whipala.

Great location, awesome breakyfast

We booked a double private room and for our surprise we had two double rooms and a bunk bed, all for us. Every morning we were looking for the breakfast, the best i had in this trip so far. It's a very quiet place, there is no "common area", so if you want to meet people, you better of staying somewhere else.
The staff is great, very friendly and helpful, they clean your room and change the towels everyday. The location is great too: by the side of the red line, two blocs from plaza foch, in a quiet and nice street. And the best part, the value: one of the best cost x benefice you will find in Mariscal

Close to it all, but still quiet

Hostal Whipala proved to be challenging for us to find on a map and for our taxi driver to find to drop us off - it will help if you have GPS to help with the directions as it's not a particularly well known hostel - but once we made it there we realized we really were quite close to La Mariscal, just a couple blocks away, so close enough for convenience without being right in the thick of it.
The owner, Omar, and his family were friendly, but don't speak English, so this choice may not be for you if you don't speak at least a little Spanish. The property was very secure, you need to be let into and out of the courtyard area.
There are only a few rooms. We had one with two bunk beds and a double bed, plus a private bath. We weren't expecting extra beds, but as it was rented as a double, no other people were in the room with us. The beds are firm (but not overly so) and the blankets are *very* warm (too warm for me, but I imagine they'd be useful on chilly nights). The water pressure was actually pretty good and the water was plenty hot enough. We hadn't anticipated that our room would be cleaned when we left for the day (sheets changed, towels replaced, new mini soaps), but that was a nice surprise when we got back for the day.
I would certainly recommend Hostal Whipala.
