A great stay at Jackalberry
We had a wonderful time at Jackalberry Lodge. The accommodations were great and really liked the atmosphere there. The place was clean and comfortable. The staff was very welcoming and the manager, OP was so friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the Chobi River boat cruise and also the jeep safari. We have fond memories of our stay at Jackalberry and would highly recommend this place.

A 5 star lodge with a 4 star experience.
This was our second experience at a safari lodge while we were in Africa. It was definitely hard to beat our first experience. It did take a process to get here as you had to go through a customs area. This lodge is definitely a five out of five we absolutely loved our tented suite, but a few things led to me giving it a four star instead of a five star. Our area we slept in, was absolutely beautiful. Our first facility offered a wet bar in the tented suite that had complementary snacks and drinks, although to be honest, we did not use much of it. It was nice knowing it was there. They definitely feed you enough where you don’t usually need to snack in addition. The staff mostly was very friendly. There were a few people that were pretty silent and did not smile much and even at times made it seem like we were “out of place” and because it was a slower season it did feel a bit awkward at times while we were dining in there eating area. I can’t even say how much we spent to stay here and do the Safari. I just feel like it should’ve been or felt like a five star review for the cost. The ride to the safari area was so cold, driving in an open vehicle was just so cold, dress very warm, I think there should be a better way to get there without freezing on the way. The safari guide was amazing and had to do the driving, tracking and be the voice guide also! A lot for one person, our first safari at a different lodge had a tracker and a guide which seemed a better experience in general. We also are Pescatarian and they definitely did not have enough options for us for meals so we ate the same fish almost everyday. Again, for the cost of this trip there should be more options. They knew well in advance of our diet restrictions.

Great stay
Lovely view of the river from the main area or the riverfront tents. Beautiful main area and pool.
Loved the dressing gowns and slippers and reverse cycle air con in the rooms. Appreciated the toiletries and hairdryer. All the rooms are elevated so you are safe from hippos or crocs and can access the rooms at night without a guide.
Food was fabulous and the staff were good humoured, kind and helpful.
Our guide took us on a safari in chine national park which was awesome as well as a river cruise which was fun.
We saw tons of elephants and many lions and buffalo. Some giraffes and jackels and vultures and eagles.
Note that the camp is a few minutes drive from town. There is a petrol station and supermarket just outside and a prison across the street. But we felt safe and happy and connected to nature nevertheless.

Great location
We had a great stay here, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the game driver was fantastic, our river cruise was beautiful.
Justice our game driver did his absolute best to get a good view every time we saw an animal and that’s quite an achievement considering The Chobe is a very busy game park. (Lots of safari vehicles which was perhaps the only concern we had) the elephants, hippos were plentiful and we managed to see a lion, cheetah and a leopard.
The food was fairly average and the breakfast before safari was not to our taste but ok. The bar staff
were great.

Safari Magic, Service Misses
Jackalberry Chobe delivers an undeniably impressive setting, with around a dozen enormous standalone tented suites, some perched right on the riverbank. I was fortunate to be in Tent #6, tucked away at the end of the boardwalk, which offered both excellent privacy and lovely, uninterrupted views over the water.
The accommodation itself is exceptional. The air-conditioned tent was beautifully appointed, blending comfort with a genuine safari feel. The real surprise, however, was the bathroom — a vast 8m x 3m space featuring a classic claw-footed bath, something you simply don’t expect in a tented camp.
The public areas are equally well done, with a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that makes the most of the stunning Chobe River setting.
Unfortunately, the experience is let down by the food. Meals were consistently bland and uninspired, falling well short of the standard set by the accommodation. Service in the restaurant also needs attention, with staff appearing undertrained and bar service particularly slow.
What truly elevates a stay here, however, is the safari experience. The standout feature of this all-inclusive resort was Jack, our safari driver, whose knowledge seems limitless. He works in conjunction with Thebe River Safaris and delivered three unforgettable game drives. One in particular was extraordinary — the rare and raw privilege of witnessing a lion pride on a kill.
We left with memories that will last a lifetime.
In summary, Jackalberry Chobe excels in accommodation and setting, and with the right guide, can deliver truly exceptional safari moments. However, the dining and service inconsistencies detract from what could otherwise be a flawless experience.
