Wonderful Experience

The food was presented beautifully and the ingredients were fresh. The Italian cuisine was exceptionally curated by the Chef, though the interior of the restaurant needs some renovation. Overall, a good place to dine and enjoy the great food.

A discovery

Very friendly hostess, which is not always self-evident in businesses with 1 star. The food was of course refined, otherwise they wouldn't get such praise. Beautiful, quiet location and practically at the motorway exit. We'll come again!

Superb dining, wonderful nights

We ended our own little Tour de France (albeit in a rented FIAT) in the Belgian Ardennes region and stayed at the Hostellerie Gillain for 3 nights. This is a destination restaurant of very high quality (Michelin starred) which also has 6 exceptional rooms, making it also a very small hotel. It is out in the country a bit, surrounded by fields and lowing cattle, about 10km from the riverside town of Dinant. This is not far from Namur or the primary sites of the Bulge battles (St. Vith, Houffalize, etc.). But being somewhat hidden away, mapping it by GPS is a good idea. It serves lunch and dinner as a restaurant (and breakfast to their overnight guests which, as one might expect from such a restaurant, nicely lavish). We stayed here as a central point to explore into the Belgian Ardennes and to dine very well at dinner without having to worry about driving afterwards. Parking is either in a parking lot off the road or in front of the building. The room (upstairs; there are also 3 on the ground floor) was spacious with a small and quite private balcony and table and chairs, surrounded by grape vines, looking out on a large field of brown cattle. The large king size bed was excellent, the bathrooms large and complete, towels thick. Dinners are impeccable, from the service and the room to the food and wines on offer. For having a Michelin star, the prices to enjoy such gastronomy are quite reasonable, possibly as it is well off the beaten path. The food is locally sourced as much as possible, the chef cures his own ham down by the wine cellar, the wines in flights that can be chosen to accompany a menu are interesting and uncommon and on point. The hotel is a very restful place from which to enjoy the beauties of the Belgian countryside. Their website is accurate and very descriptive if you are curious. Truly, little has been spared to make this both a delightful stay and a memorable dining experience. Very highly recommended.

restaurant which is very good and friendly

the small hotel is in a rural area. the rooms are spacious and comfortable. it is a pleasure to stay there. of course the restaurant is the main attraction, but we liked the room, too. we chose this hotel for two reasons; the restaurant and the location, because we wanted to visit the museum and the area of Bastone where the Americans stopped the Germans in W.W.2

Lot's of attention

Just for the restaurant ///
By a sunny day, we took our sport car and drove from Brussels to Dinant
While escaping the tourist atmosphere we decided to have our lunch at the "Gilain " restaurant
Excellent decision as we were warmly welcomed ( without reservation), it was also warm outside ... and guided to the "terrace".
As one of the guest was smoking we asked for another table and enjoyed a new table with nice views and some shadow
The "maître d'hôtel" was just perfect
We di chose for the menu "degustation" combining fish and poultry ; very nice indeed while the dessert was the "surprise" and magnificent
The wine list is just overwhelming, we had an Italian Puglia red which was just superb and at the right temperature
The experience was worth the trip and not that far from Brussels
We will be back in the winter and are thrilled to discover the Winter suggestions
Well done to Gilain and his lady trying very hard and succeeding also
