Nice pub atmosphere

I'd walked past Boyle's Pub many times, promising myself I'd dine at their front-window table due to its nice vibe - so I finally did! My dining buddy & I were surprised to walk into a nicely-refurbished, clean and bright pub throughout. My favourite window-table was located in the homey corner of the bistro with its old framed b&w photos paying tribute to the hotel's proud history, along with a lamp, wallpaper, pressed-metal ceiling edges and faux greenery - which made it feel like someone's living room. The outside brickwork was supplied by the Kirrawee Brick Works, and they were the very first bricks out of the new brickworks. Boyle's was also the first hotel to be established in Sutherland in the late 1800s.
We ordered at the counter and waited a bit longer for our meals than expected. A lady from counter service came and checked the buzzer on the table during our wait, but we weren't told why. No problem. Then for some reason, they thought we'd ordered take-away, so our meals were then transferred back onto plates. We were happy to overlook these small set-backs, however, we would rate the overall counter service, on what was a quiet Wednesday night, as below average.
The plates were huge, and so were the helpings! Traditional pub menu (shanks, burgers, steaks, pasta, risotto) with moderate pricing. We opted for Chicken Schnitzel and Chicken Parmy - both with Chips & Salad. In general, the quality of our meals was fine, however, both our schnitzel fillets were cut on the slope - so half was perfect and the other half was quite tough & overcooked. The accompanying chips & salad were fine, and we loved their salad dressing.
For us, the best thing about the night was the relaxed mid-week atmosphere where we could have a drink & meal in peaceful surroundings amongst a nice setting. Clean high-chairs and kids' menu available. Lunch & dinner specials Mon-Wed. Karaoke every Thursday from 8pm; also some live music. Accommodation available. A short walk from Sutherland Station or on-site parking via Boyle Street.

Bouyles Hotel Sutherland

The staff were welcoming. Good atmosphere. Room, bed looked like it had been slept in. the side table top came off. Electrical cords were visible and dangerous, almost tripped over them near the side table next to the bed. Could not open the safe after numerous attempts reading the instructions. furnishings out dated. Very confusing getting to our room. The room needs a good clean. Dust on clock radio and bed head. Curtain starting to fall down.

Avoid this place.

Looking on the Boyles Hotel website and seeing "comfortable surrounds" I figured that would be a good safe place to meet some friends. How wrong I was. Before settling in and getting a drink we were told to get out of the hotel. An unsavory incident occurred, instigated by an employee of this hotel,leaving my wife injured on the floor. Not one apology was given even after I contacted the hotel the following morning. Obviously this incident has been reported to the police who are investigating. Not one person Staff or patrons came to our aid. A good place to avoid.

Getting to Be a Local Again

Dropped in for pre & post dinner drinks and had a good time all round. Pretty friendly staff even after a few covid check in glitches! Hopefully we can dispense with the need in the near future. Some friends stayed for dinner & enjoyed their meals but we had a previous booking elsewhere, next time maybe? A good sized & friendly Pub with a happy atmosphere! Just happy to be getting out & about & a good spot to visit!!
