Our favorite stay during 3 weeks in Portugal!
The little houses are beautiful and have plenty of space for a family of four. Everything is incredibly well thought out. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, there’s a washing machine and drying rack in every villa, a coffee maker, plenty of towels and toilet paper, and even a lovely bottle of wine waiting for you on arrival. It sounds like small things, but it makes such a difference when you stay somewhere for several days and literally everything you need is there.
And then there is Nélia! She is an absolutely wonderful host and lives on the property with her lovely family. She is warm, welcoming and incredibly proactive whenever you need anything. One evening we were just relaxing outside our villa when she appeared with freshly baked pastéis de nata for us — honestly, the most delicious ones we had during our entire trip!
The location is also fantastic. Within about half an hour you can reach several beautiful beaches and lovely little villages, so it’s a great base for exploring the area. In the evenings you can either cook at the villa or head out for dinner nearby.
We stayed for four nights, but next time I would book at least a week. I could honestly see myself staying here for two weeks and using it as a base to enjoy this beautiful part of Portugal.
I rarely feel this enthusiastic about accommodation, but Vila Lira really is a special place. And one little tip: contact Vila Lira directly to book — you may get a great deal, and it also saves this lovely family the commissions charged by the big booking platforms.
