The hotel needs a good update!!
In addition, the room is missing several basic amenities that we would reasonably expect from a hotel of this standard, including a TV, telephone, refrigerator, shower cap, soap, tissues, and cotton swabs. There is also no proper shower, and I could not find a safe where we could securely leave our passports. We did not feel comfortable carrying our passports with us whenever we left the hotel.
This has been particularly disappointing because we chose to stay at Fretheim Hotel during a very special anniversary trip. We were expecting a comfortable and pleasant experience, but instead we have had to deal with a room that did not meet our expectations and an unpleasant odor upon arrival.
The breakfast was good but not great!
No espresso, cappuccino or hot chocolate.
Just coffee from the machine.
The location was the best part of the our trip!

Hotel is well used. Reminded me of a college dorm room. Not terrible but not 4 or 5 star. Well situated but, the entire Flam experience is much like a cruise line created destination for cruise ships - if i'd known I'd have skipped it entirely.

Disappointing - room - Junior suite - so not cheap - on the ground floor looked into the car park and cruise ship blocking the view of the fjord. Quite public as people walked past.
Old hotel with noisy plumbing - again - ground floor seemed to hear every time a tap was used above - not the restful evening we had planned.
Breakfast was good

Flam is nice but not worth the exorbitant overnight costs

Flåm is undeniably spectacular. The scenery, fjord and railway journey are worth experiencing. I’m glad I came.
In hindsight, I would not recommend spending the night here, particularly at the prices charged for accommodation and dining. The village is very small and overrrun when a ship is moored. Once the cruise ship leaves, there are surprisingly few options for an evening.
Flåm would have been much better as a scenic stop on the Norway in a Nutshell journey, followed by continuing on to Bergen. The overnight stay added considerable expense without adding much to the experience.
Ironically, my dinner ended up being smoked salmon, hummus, a fresh bun and a beer from Coop in my hotel room which was actually a very good dinner, but not quite what I expected after paying so much to stay here.
Bottom line: absolutely visit Flåm; just think twice before paying for an overnight stay. The scenery is five-star. The value for money is not.

Great location

At US$500 a night this hotel was completely underwhelming. Very tired and disjointed. Small rooms with no TV, no aircon , no moisturiser or tissues and the shower is over a bath but water goes everywhere once you shower. Comes with a dressing gown and slippers. Unfortunately there is not many other choices of where to stay hence this hotel has a monopoly. Parking was US12 a night. Location is very good and you can see the cruise ship in the harbour. We ended up eating pizza at the hostel as we refused to pay US$40 for a burger! The pizza was delicious!
