Lucy who checked us in was lovely, helpful and cheerful. English is not her first language but she was very clear and funny. I hope she is able to read this review.
All the ladies who served at Breakfast were also very helpful and efficent.

Not up to scratch

This is a favourite hotel of mine and I like to visit once a year for some rest and relaxation. Unfortunately, this time it was poor enough visit. Check in was fine but when I went up to the room allocated to me, I noticed it was an adjoining room and I could hear the lady next door chatting away on the phone. So, before I unpacked I went down to see if per chance there was another room available. As I'm travelling solo, I didn't much fancy a door to another room and the noise/privacy aspect was an issue. The receptionist was helpful, enquired as to why I was seeking a change and informed me the other rooms would incur an extra charge of almost 80 euro. She understood that I was disappointed that this would be the case and when I enquired whether there was someone else she could ask, she said she would just give me the room. To be fair, she did say this alternative room had no view of the bay but I said it didn't matter. All was well, a pleasant exchange. I had to laugh when I saw the room, you can judge yourself but it does feel like a dorm room and the lack of anything like a bedside lamp makes it even more so. It seems I was unlucky with room allocation on this occasion. There really isn't anything remotely ambient about the room, it is very basic in nature and such a let down for a beautiful hotel. The bathroom is lovely and modern, however.
Dinner at the bar was very nice, the 2 that were working there were approachable and helpful and 1 even found me a newspaper when he saw that I'd gone out to reception looking for one. The bar is a cosy and friendly place with beautiful views out to sea.
I will come back, but will be very sure to stipulate "not the college dorm room please or the one that is joined to the other".

Rotting food and food poisoning

Four of us had lunch in hotel coffee shop. Only food on menu was micro-wave mediocrity. Worse, the soup was rancid as in rotting. Two of us had seafood for a main course. All of us got violent incapacitating food poisoning for several days. Starting a few hours later apart from that the hotel is a declining spectacle of peeling paint and pet unfriendliness. A MUST MISS

Amazing Food!

Had a lovely evening with friends in the Eccles Hotel . The food was amazing! The staff were so professional and friendly. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Eat elsewhere!

This hotel boasts one of the most scenic views in the world, but the worst restaurant! Five of us had lunch after a tour of the superb Garinish Island. Two of us had toasted sandwiches and "soup", one had an open prawn salad, I had "fish pie". Both consumers said the soup was inedible, and my husband had an unsettled stomach for the next day. The girl who had the prawns was very badly ill. My fish pie was a pile of potato floating in a pond of cream with a couple of prawns in between! It was a memorably dreadful meal. I would advise any roadside cafe between Durrus and Dingle would be a better bet!
