This hotel gets a lot of things wonderfully right. The rooms are spacious and spotless, the breakfast is fantastic, and the water filling station and coffee machine is a surprisingly great perk. The location is unbeatable, putting you a ten minute walk from just about everything, with a tram stop literally at the front door. Plus, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
​Now for the quirks. The elevator is roughly the size of a shoebox and operates on its own leisurely schedule. As advertised, the building lacks air conditioning. We tried to beat the late September heat by opening the windows. This successfully cooled the room but unfortunately transformed us into an all-you-can-eat buffet for local mosquitoes, all while providing a front-row acoustic ticket to the 3 AM choir of rowdy street drunks.
​To add to the temperature roulette, the beds were initially outfitted solely with heavy winter comforters. Who needs a sauna when you have a duvet? Fortunately, those aforementioned lovely staff members came to our rescue with proper top sheets as soon as we asked.
​The verdict: It is a fantastic launchpad for exploring the city. Just pack some industrial-grade bug spray and earplugs, or simply book a place with climate control if sleeping cool and unbitten is high on your priority list.

Super cute, incredibly well located spot with rooms much larger than you’d expect from a European city hotel. Highly recommend.

Terrible cleanliness, central location

We stayed here for 5 nights; the positive aspects are the size of the room and the very central location.
It is necessary to point out, however, that the cleaning standards are abysmal: the room was never dusted, except after repeated requests, the bathroom was never cleaned, the carpet is embarrassing, and the linens always
arrived stained.
The breakfast service is decent but, if not included, it is not worth the price.

Be wary of the High City Taxes

We spent 4 nights in the Nova during late June. The room was a reasonable size, clean and in good decorative order but had no air conditioning during the hottest day of the year in Amsterdam. A small table fan was provided but it didn't really help. Luckily we were at the rear of the building so could open our windows away from the noise of traffic and trams at the front. We found it odd that there were no drawers whatsoever in the the room to put socks and underwear, just some shelves, one of which housed the safe and another the hairdryer and hotel info. Equally no shelves in the bathroom upon which to put personal toiletries. We did find the area around the hotel to be scruffy with rubbish strewn everywhere and while the hotel management cannot be held responsible for that, it did make us question the level of City Tax which is charged, partly for keeping the streets clean. We were aware that there would be a local tax to pay upon arrival but thought that it would be a couple of euros per person per night. We were shocked to be charged Euro 98.76 (£90.23) for a 4 night stay. Despite the fantastic location, we wouldn't stay there again.
