First class hotel
This hotel has recently been refurbished and it showed. Previously known as the Astoria (some of the taxi drivers couldn’t find it on Sat nav but came up on the old name) it has gone through a transformation with a modern style which gave the bedrooms a real chic feel. The rooms are spacious with a fantastic bathroom and stylish desk to work at if required. It has a fridge and surprisingly a microwave that’s on a wheeled combined cabinet so you can relocate it near a plug socket. As with many German hotels it lacked a kettle. The bed was large and very comfy but again like many German hotels pillows are so soft your head literally hits the mattress!
There’s no bar but there is a breakfast room where a coffee/tea machine and fresh croissants are provided free. By early evening this room and the reception area is locked off and you use a side entrance using a key pad to enter the hotel.
The area is residential and quiet with the exception of numerous bin lorries who like to do there rounds early in the morning. There is a late night shops at either end of the street who have limited stock (one is small cafe with crisps, chocs and drinks cabinet) and a sports bar which we frequented to watch the EURO 2024 games. It deserves a review in itself, more a local community centre for older men but was very friendly despite the language barrier and the beer was so cheap it was unbelievable. Further beyond was several high quality restaurants and trams to and from the city centre. About 2 blocks away was also the underground that was two stops away from central Dusseldorf.
Finally, a special word for Mario the hotel manager who was so helpful and friendly…….made us feel so welcome.
This hotel is first rate and well worth of considering if you want to have a stylish stay without paying through the nose for it.
