Incredibly friendly staff; pleasant hotel and restaurant.

We've stayed here a couple of times, for close to a week each time. This is an older, fairly basic hotel but everything works just fine, and the amenities are great! As well as the formal restaurant in the base of the building, there's a pleasant cafe/bar on the main floor. Popular for football on Saturday nights! Three rooms at the west end have balconies, and the rest facing south to the river have windows for a terrific view of the big sculpture park in "downtown" Barquinha.
The restaurant is closed Sunday evenings and all day Monday, along with the coffee bar--so it's a bit quiet on Mondays with only the hotel residents on-hand. The food is good--mostly central Portuguese standards at a good price.
As mentioned elsewhere, you definitely hear the local church bells and roosters, but that's just local colour. We really enjoyed our time at the Soltejo (note: name is one word, not two). Thanks, Rui and crew, for a good stay! (Also--location is not clear on the map--the hotel is on the local highway, adjacent to a gas station--good for travelling through.)

Nice hotel and restaurant on the way to Castelo de Almourol

We came to Barquinha by train from Lisbon and walked to this hotel/restaurant. Lunch at the restaurant was delicious, especially the deserts (made by the owner of the hotel). The next day we walked the 5 km to the Castle of Almourol (and back). The staff was friendly and helpful. The view from the hotel was nice overlooking the park that runs along the river.

Good food but slow service

Nice location, restaurant with parking. However, we waited a long time for the food. Fortunatelly it was quite good. The staff was friendly but it seemed they were not expecting so many people and did not cope very well with the situation. We just went to the restaurant and have not stayed at the hotel

A comida é ótima e a um valor super acessível! A simpatia e atenção dos empregados para com os clientes são de louvar. Há muito tempo que não era tratada de forma tão amável num restaurante. Recomendo vivamente!
Ah e açorda de marisco é divinal!

Restaurante

Almoçamos no restaurante do hotel após uma visita ao castelo de Almourol. Dia de semana, não estava cheio, mas havia somente uma funcionária para atender todas as mesas. Ela corria se um lado para o outro mas mesmo assim o atendimento ficou um pouco demorado. A comida estava saborosa e a quantidade era mais que suficiente. Pedimos entrada, sopa, prato do dia e sobremesa. A conta ficou 16€. Preço ótimo pois a comida é muito boa. Para completar há uma bonita vista para o Parque das Estruturas.
